Athlete of the Week:
Vanessa Akuaku (Accra, Ghana) Earlham College | Sophomore - Vanessa Akuaku went 4-0 in singles play and 3-1 in doubles this week. The sophomore picked up wins at No.1 singles against Rose-Hulman 6-0, 6-1, No.1 singles against Berea 6-0, 6-1, No.1 singles against IU Southeast 6-4, 3-6, 11-9, and No.1 singles against Mount Union 6-3, 6-4. In doubles play, Akuaku scored wins over Rose-Hulman, Berea and IU Southeast.
Notable Performances:
- Ella Frantz (Gas City, Ind.) Anderson University | Senior - Ella Frantz won her matches at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Manchester. Frantz and her partner earned a 6-0 victory against Manchester at No. 1 doubles. She then secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory against the Spartans’ No. 1 in singles play.
- Eleanor Stillabower (Franklin, Ind.) Franklin College | Freshman - Eleanor Stillabower won both of her matches at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Greenville and a 6-2, 6-1 win against IU Southeast.
- Annamarie Stogsdill (Nineveh, Ind.) Hanover College | Sophomore - Amanda Stogsdill led Hanover as it took on both Transylvania and Manchester. The sophomore won No. 1 doubles 6-2, while also securing her No. 1 singles match, 6-3, 6-4, against Transylvania. She then won her No. 1 doubles match 6-4 despite surrendering the overall doubles point.
- Julia Burt (Nashville, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Sophomore - Julia Burt was the hero in Rose-Hulman's comeback win over Earlham on Saturday with a score of 4-3. After losing the doubles point and the first two singles matches, the Fightin' Engineers trailed 3-0 in the match. The team rallied to win the next three singles matches to tie the score at 3-3. It all came down to Burt's No. 6 singles match. Burt earned the deciding point, defeating her opponent after a third-set tiebreaker with scores of 6-3. 4-6, 6-4.
- Paulina Razo (San Antonio, Texas) Transylvania University | Sophomore - Paulina Razo delivered a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles in a road HCAC match up with Hanover this weekend.
