2024 HCAC Swimming & Diving Championships Recap: Day 4

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The 2024 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up on Saturday, with Franklin College claiming the women’s title and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology taking the men’s.

Rose-Hulman captured the men's title with a score of 881.5, beating out Franklin College, who earned 677.5 points. Transylvania University finished third with 466, Anderson University placed fourth with 330 while Manchester University was fifth with 292 points and Hanover College placed sixth with 117 points and Bluffton University rounded out the scoring in seventh place with one point.
 
On the women's side, Franklin took the title with a dominating 945 points. Transylvania finished second with 667 points, while Rose-Hulman took third with 505. Anderson finished in fourth with 286. Manchester (218),Hanover (146), and Bluffton (116) rounded out the scoring, finishing in fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively.
 
In the first event of the evening, Catherine Bath came up big in the 1650 Yard Freestyle, with a swim of 17:47.56 to win the event for Rose-Hulman. Grizzly Kat Lundy won the 200 Yard Backstroke, touching in a time of 2:05.01. Petal Sloan won the 100 Yard Freestyle, with a swim of 52.23 for Franklin.
 
Regan Hendricks swam to a win in the 200 Yard Breaststroke for Franklin, with her time of 2:28.33 besting the competition. Samantha Phillips snagged her third straight win in the 200 Yard Butterfly, touching in a time of 2:05.94, setting a new HCAC Championship record.
 
In the final event for the women, Franklin continued its dominance, taking the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay behind swims from Caileigh McCafferty, Samantha Phillips, Petal Sloan, and Celeste Hollis with a time of 3:28.19 - a new HCAC Meet Record and NCAA 'B' cut time.

On the boards, Mackie Redford, from Transylvania, claimed the title, with a score of 428.5 and a qualifying score for Regionals. 

For the men, the first event of the night went to Rose-Hulman’s Evan Sellers, who won the event for the third straight year, swimming a time of 16:21.53 in the 1650 Yard Freestyle. In the 200 Yard Backstroke Transylvania’s Kole Brannock won the event with a time of 1:51.38. Franklin’s Zachary Jackson-Blaine won the 100 Yard Freestyle, touching in a time of 45.79.
 
Vineet Ranade turned in a time of 2:00.65 in the 200 Yard Breaststroke to claim the event for Rose-Hulman in addition to setting a new HCAC Meet Record and securing an NCAA B cut time. In the 200 Yard Butterfly, Kosmo Wojack won his third straight title in the event, with his swim of 1:49.06 besting the competition for Franklin, posting a NCAA 'B’ cut time.
 
In the final event of the night for the men, the 400 Yard Freestyle relay team of Vineet Ranade, Blaise Swartwood, Aidan Carter and Sam West securing the victory for Rose-Hulman with a time of 3:04.77.

The marquee award winners were honored at the close of the meet, with Franklin's Samantha Phillips named the 2023 HCAC Women's Swimmer of the Meet and Transylvania's Kole Brannock earning the title of 2023 HCAC Men's Swimmer of the Meet.

On the boards Transylvania's Mackie Redford stepping up to take the women’s title and Anderson's Matthew Hayward, taking the men's title, were both named the 2024 HCAC Divers of the Year. 

Another trio of first-years to earn honors were the Newcomers of the Year. From Franklin, Celeste Hollis and Kat Lundy took the honor of 2024 HCAC Women's Co-Newcomers of the Year. Representing Rose-Hulman, Garrett Walls was named the 2024 HCAC Men's Newcomer of the Year.

Finally, the coach of the year was honored. Andrew Hendricks from Franklin was named the both the men’s and women’s 2024 HCAC Coach of the Year.

All-Conference Honors:

Each swimmer, diver, and relay team that finished their respective events in First Place is named to the First Team HCAC All-Conference; Second Place finishers are named to the Second Team HCAC All-Conference; and Third Place finishers are named to the Honorable Mention HCAC All-Conference Teams.
