2026 HCAC Swimming & Diving Championship Recap - Day 1 & 2

Franklin leads both men's and women's competitions following Day 2

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The 2026 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships commenced on Wednesday night and continued through Thursday at the Vigo County Aquatic Center in Terre Haute, Ind. 

At the end of Day 2, Franklin leads in both the women's and men's competitions. The women have earned 352 points through Thursday, while the men's score stands at 262.

Day 1 of the meet took place Wednesday night with the 800 freestyle relays, plus the men's 3-meter diving competition.

Taking gold in the women's 800 freestyle relay was the Grizzlies quartet of Petal Sloan, Macie McQuinn, Avery Tomlinson, and Kat Lundy who finished with a time of 7:50.75. Meanwhile, Isaac Layton, Sam Hittel, Kaden Cummins, and Keaton Stephenson from Franklin paced the field in the men's 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:55.58.

Rose-Hulman's Parker Siddons took gold in men's 3-meter diving with a score of 332.60.

Competition resumed on Thursday with preliminaries in the morning and finals at night.

The finals session began with the 200 freestyle relays with the teams from Franklin taking first for both the men and women.

Elizabeth McKittrick, Landi Newcomb, Petal Sloan, and Celeste Hollis clocked in at 1:36.73 to take the women's gold, while Zachary Jackson-Blaine, Will Johnson, Bryson Howe, and Kaden Cummins finished in 1:24.22 to earn 36 points for the men.

Next up was the 500 freestyle where the Fightin' Engineers Catherine Bath defended her HCAC crown, touching the wall at 5:10.60. For the men, it was Franklin's Layton leading the field with a time of 4:39.99.

The Grizzlies women would top the podium in three more individual events on Day Two with Tomlinson winning the 200 individual medley at 2:12.40, Sloan winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.74, and Alexis Fleming scoring 377.45 in the 1-meter diving finals to take gold. 

Tomlinson and Sloan were also part of the HCAC record-setting 400 medley relay to close out the night. Lundy and Hollis joined Tomlinson and Sloan to clock in at 3:49.88, setting both the HCAC Championship mark as well as earning the HCAC Open record.

For the men, Franklin claimed the title in the 50 freestyle with Jackson-Blaine finishing in 20.62 to take gold for the third year in a row.

Rose-Hulman won the other two men's events of the evening with Trevor Wiley winning the 200 IM at 1:53.04, while also being a part of the 400 medley relay that took first place. Wiley and his relay teammates Ethan Moen, Eric Sinclair, and Levi Galaviz finished in 3:25.66.

The HCAC Championships will continue tomorrow, Feb. 13 with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m.
