Hanover Wins 2023 HCAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) concluded the 2023 Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Franklin College, at Grizzly Park’s H. Dean Evans Track and Field Complex.
 
The Hanover College Panthers are the Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Champions, scoring a total of 165 points. The Spartans of Manchester University finished in second place with a total of 163.5 points. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology finished in third with 161 total points.
 
The women’s javelin throw opened up day two on the women’s side, which resulted in Jill Wilhelm of Mount St. Joseph University became the first HCAC champion on the women’s side on day two. Wilhelm posted a conference-best 38.95 meter throw for the title.
 
Carley Camp of Manchester earned the title of champion of the women’s hammer throw. Camp’s winning throw went a distance of 45.54 meters.
 
Madison Huelskamp of Earlham College was crowned champion in the women’s long jump. Huelskamp jumped 5.16 meters to win the competition. Huelskamp’s performance in the women’s long jump resulted in being named the HCAC’s women’s Most Outstanding Jumps Athlete of the Year.
 
Alison Muck of Franklin College, who broke a school record on day one of the competition, found herself atop the women’s high jump podium clearing 1.51 meters (Muck set Franklin’s school record in the 100 Meter Hurdles Prelim). Not only was Muck’s 1.51 mark good enough for the women’s high jump championship, she was also named the HCAC’s Women’s Newcomer of the Year.
 
The women’s 4x100 meter relay led to Rose-Hulman becoming champions in the 4x100 Meter Relay. The Fightin’ Engineers team that posted a time of 49.13 was made up of Narindwa Semakula, Rofiat Adeyemi, Alex Adams, and Katrina Agustin.
 
The women’s 1500 meter winner has been a familiar name atop of the distance podiums throughout her time at Manchester. Elizabeth Lohman, not only won the 1500 meter run (4:54.38) and the 5000 meter run (19:08.99) on day two. Lohman also won the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase on day one. Lohman’s dominant performances this weekend resulted in being named the HCAC’s Women’s Most Outstanding Distance Athlete of the Year in back-to-back campaigns.
 
The women’s 100 meter hurdles champion was decided by .33 seconds which led to Narindwa Semakula of Rose-Hulman being crowned champion of the Women’s 100 Meter Hurdles. Semakula edged out Muck of Franklin for the HCAC title.
 
The Women’s 400 meter dash champion is Jada Stansberry of Anderson University. Stansberry posted a 57-second 400 meter dash for this year's HCAC title. Stansberry’s dominating performance resulted in being named the HCAC’s Women’s Most Outstanding Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year.
 
The women’s 100 meter dash champion was decided by just .02 seconds with third place finishing .03 seconds behind this year's conference champion. Sarah O’Day of Franklin was crowned as this year's women’s 100 meter dash champion in a race that was as close as it can get.
 
The women’s 800 meter run champion is Hanover’s Amberleigh Sorensen who posted a 2:24.55 which paced the field resulting in being crowned champion.
 
The women’s 400 meter hurdles champion was determined by nearly half a second. Jada Hunter-Hays of Rose-Hulman turned in a time of 1:07.28 which was just enough to be crowned champion of this year’s women’s 400 meter hurdles.
 
Sarah O’Day of Franklin who was this year’s Women’s 100 Meter Dash champion was also the Women’s 200 Meter Dash champion. O’Day was crowned champion of the Women’s 200 Meter Dash by just .02 seconds (25.52 seconds) over Jada Stansberry who finished in second place in this event, with a time of 25.54 seconds.
 
The final race of the Outdoor Track and Field Championships was the women’s 4x400 meter relay. The Fightin’ Engineers of Rose-Hulman found themselves atop the podium in this one posting a blazing time of 4:13.94. The Fightin’ Engineers 4x400 Meter Relay team was made up of Jada Hunter-Hays, Madison Lindfelt, Jenae Mona, and Emily Peterson.
