HCAC 2022 Men’s Soccer Notebook, Week 2

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) men’s soccer teams competed in week two of the 2022 season.

Athletes of the Week:
Offensive Athlete of the Week:
Noah Black (Mississinewa, Ind.) Manchester University | Defense | Junior - In the first two of three outings for the Spartans this week Black went 100 percent with three SOG for three goals scoring MUs single goal against Grace Christian (L 1-2) and both in the 2-2 tie with Wittenberg. Black also recorded 265 minutes on the pitch in the three contests. MU-MSOC ended the week 1-1-1.
Defensive Athlete of the Week:
John Biederstedt (Indianapolis, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Goal Keeper | Sophomore – Biederstedt helped Rose-Hulman defeat Wabash 1-0 and draw nationally renowned North Central 1-1 with a strong week in goal. Biederstedt recorded seven saves in the shutout of Wabash and added five saves in the draw against North Central.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Drew Vaughn (Beavercreek, Ohio) Anderson University | Defense | Junior - Vaughn delivered a 40-yard goal to tie the match with DePauw at 2-2 during Monday's 2-2 draw.
  • Dalton Taynor (Troy, Ohio) Bluffton University | Forward | Senior - Taynor powered the Beavers to a 1-0-1 mark on the week with a tie against Olivet followed up by a 2-0 shutout at Heidelberg. He tallied three points with a goal and assist on Wednesday before netting his second goal of the week on Sunday afternoon, giving the senior four goals through Bluffton's first three matches. He finished the week with two goals and one assist.
  • Chase Stiner (St. Joseph, Ill.) Defiance College | Midfield | Senior – Stiner scored both goals for Defiance in a 3-2 loss to Mount Union and assisted on one goal for Defiance in their 2-2 tie at Wilmington.
  • Dizdar Omar (Bardstown, Ky.) Hanover College | Forward | First-Year - Dizdar led the No. 18 ranked Panthers to a 1-0-1 week as they fell to No. 9 ranked Calvin 2-1. Dizdar added the lone goal of the week while firing off two shots both of which landed on frame.
  • Luciano Salemi (Indianapolis, Ind.) Hanover College | Goal Keeper | Junior - Salemi led the No. 18 ranked Panther defensive effort as they posted a 1-0-1 record falling to No. 9 ranked Calvin and tying Hope. In the contest with Calvin, he charted four saves on six shots faced. Against Hope, he recorded a clean sheet with four stops.
  • Tatenda Mafa (St. Catherines, Ontario) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Forward | Junior – Mafa scored the lone goal in Rose-Hulman's 1-0 win at Wabash to help the Fightin' Engineers move to 2-0-1 on the season after a 1-0-1 week.
  • Collen Gudorf (Troy, Ohio) Transylvania University | Goal Keeper | First-Year - Gudorf recorded eight saves and a clean sheet shutout in a 0-0 tie for the Pioneers against Berry College this weekend in a defensive heavy game with 13 shots recorded against the Pioneer defense.
