Manchester Wins 2022 HCAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship

HANOVER, Ind. – Manchester University captured the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) 2022 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday.

The Spartans won with a commanding score of 180 points. Hanover College finished in second with 177 points, while Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology took third with 158 points. Anderson University snagged a fourth place finish with 73 points, while Franklin College rounded out the top five with 54 points.
 
With a busy day, full of HCAC Champions crowned, the women got things started in the field. Carley Camp picked up the first win of the day in the hammer throw, with a throw of 47.59 meters securing the win for Manchester. In the javelin throw, Hanover’s Jessica Beckman notched the victory behind a toss of 37.69 meters. In the jumps, Rose-Hulman placed another on top of the podium, with Rofiat Adeyemi winning the triple jump with a leap of 11.43 meters. In the high jump, Anderson’s Delaney Moore brought home the win, clearing a height of 1.50 meters.
 
On the track, Hanover’s 4x100 relay team picked up the Panthers first win, with the team of Nina Jazdzewski, Alexis Gerke, Makenzie Carroll and Zaleeya Martin turning in a time of 49.69. Manchester’s Elizabeth Lohman won the 1500 meter run, racing a time of 4:57.74.
 
In the 100 meter hurdles, Hanover’s Alexis Gerke picked up her second win of the day, in a time of 16.33. Taylor Allen from Transylvania picked up a win in the 400 meter dash, breaking the one-minute mark with a time of 59.14. Zaleeya Martin picked up a second win for Hanover, this time in the 100 meter dash, racing to a win with a time of 12.45.
 
In the 800 meter run, it was Manchester’s Elizabth Lohman who won the title, with a time of 2:25.72. Transylvania’s Taylor Allen picked up her second win, in the 400 meter hurdles, with a time of 1:08.03. Traci Cross from Defiance added another podium finish, with a win in the 200 meter dash, winning with a time of 25.80.
 
Hanover’s Brianna Medcalf raced to victory with a time of 18:42.97 to take the 5000 meter run title. The final track event of the evening, the 4x400 relay, Hanover crushed the competition, turning in a time of 4:09.15 behind the team of Zaleeya Martin, Nina Jazdzewski, Makenzie Carroll and Brianna Medcalf.
 
In a vote of league coaches, the following student-athletes were honored with the marque awards of the meet:

Women’s Most Outstanding Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year: Zaleeya Martin, Hanover
Women’s Most Outstanding Distance Athlete of the Year: Elizabeth Lohman, Manchester
Women’s Coach of the Year: Rachel Sharpe, Hanover
 
The HCAC recognizes an All-Conference team, with the first team comprised of first-place finishers, the second team of second place finishers and the honorable mention team made up of third place finishers. Those students who made All-Conference are listed below.
