HCAC 2022 Men’s Soccer Notebook, Week 5

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) men’s soccer teams competed in week five of the 2022 season.

Offensive Athlete of the Week:
Tyler Eldridge (Louisville, Ky.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Forward | Sophomore – Eldridge led Rose-Hulman with seven points on two goals and three assists - as the Fightin' Engineers defeated Mount St. Joseph 4-0 and Defiance 5-0 last week. Eldridge had a six-point performance with two goals and two assists - factoring in on all four goals - in the win at MSJ.
Defensive Athlete of the Week:
Trent Fry (Cynthiana, Ky.) Transylvania University | Goalkeeper | Sophomore - Fry kept a clean sheet all week for two shutouts against Bluffton and Anderson, he stated three total saves. He is now 4-0 on the year, undefeated in goal for the Pioneers.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Dalton Taynor (Troy, Ohio) Bluffton University | Forward | Senior - Taynor scored career goals 40 and 41 in the first 20 minutes as the Beavers opened a quick 2-0 lead over the home Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon. He helped Bluffton secure its first win over FC since 2017.
  • Eddy Yousak (New Castle, Ind.) Franklin College | Midfield | Junior – Yousak scored a trio of goals for Franklin in their two HCAC contests last week. He netted a pair of second half goal including the game-winner on Wednesday in a victory over Anderson. Yousak scored on a penalty kick and added an assist on Saturday against Bluffton.
  • Joao Domenici (Alphaville, Brazil) Hanover College | Forward | Sophomore - Domenici led the Panthers to a 1-0-1 week as they defeated Earlham and played to a 0-0 draw at Manchester. The sophomore charted six total shots including two of which landed on frame.
  • Luciano Salemi (Indianapolis, Ind.) Hanover College | Goalkeeper | Junior - Salemi led the Panthers to a 1-0-1 week as they defeated Earlham and played to a draw at Manchester. The junior picked up two clean sheets including two saves in the games contest against Earlham.
  • John Biederstedt (Indianapolis, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Goalkeeper | Sophomore – Biederstedt recorded Rose-Hulman shutout victories of 4-0 against Mount St. Joseph and 5-0 against Defiance last week. Biederstedt had a total of three saves on the week, including two at Defiance.
  • Mitchell Crispin (Cleveland, Tenn.) Transylvania University | Forward | Senior - Crispin scored three goals this week as the Pioneers started HCAC play. He scored both goals, one unassisted in the 2-0 victory over Bluffton. He also scored the first goal within minutes of starting the match against Anderson as the Pioneers defeated the Ravens 2-0. He has led the Pioneers to a 2-0 start in HCAC play.
