TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology captured the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) 2021 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday.

The Fightin’ Engineers won with a commanding score of 215 points. Manchester University finished in second with 147 points, while Hanover College took third with 128 points. Earlham College snagged a fourth place finish with 76 points, while Anderson University rounded out the top five with 64 points.
With a busy day, full of HCAC Champions crowned, the women got things started in the field.
Rosie Newhart picked up the first win of the day in the shot put, with a throw of 11.48 meters securing the win for Earlham. In the javelin throw, Franklin’s
Taylor Tatlock notched the victory behind a toss of 37.06 meters. In the jumps, Earlham placed another on top of the podium, with
Sarah Dickman winning the long jump with a leap of 5.34 meters. In the high jump, Rose-Hulman’s
Nosa Igiehon brought home the win, clearing a height of 1.65 meters.
On the track, Hanover’s 4x100 relay team picked up the Panthers first win, with the team of
Alijah Craig, Alexis Gerke, Makenzie Carroll and
Zaleeya Martin turning in a time of 50.90. Manchester’s
Lauren Smith won the 1500 meter run, racing a time of 5:08.86.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Rose-Hulman’s
Igiehon picked up her second win of the day, in a time of 15.24.
Taylor Allen from Transylvania picked up a win in the 400 meter dash, breaking the one-minute mark with a time of 59.31.
Martin picked up a second win for Hanover, this time in the 100 meter dash, racing to a win with a time of 12.41.
In the 800 meter run, it was Earlham’s
Shianna Bellingham who won the title, with a time of 2:26.11. Transylvania’s
Allen picked up her second win, in the 400 meter hurdles, with a time of 1:06.03.
Martin from Hanover added her third victory of the day, in the 200 meter dash, winning with a time of 25.63.
Manchester’s
Hannah Brubaker raced to victory with a time of 19:16.49 to take the 5000 meter run title. The final track event of the evening, the 4x400 relay, Rose-Hulman crushed the competition, turning in a time of 4:09.76 behind the team of
Emily Peterson, Lois Cheatham, Dara Smith and
Christina Rogers.
The HCAC recognizes a Track and a Field Athlete of the Year, as well as a Newcomer of the Year, a student athlete who is in their first year of athletic eligibility within the sport. The coaches also vote to recognize a Coach of the Year. Those winners are listed below.
