Franklin College Captures First HCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Crown

TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology men’s and Franklin College
women’s track and field team earned titles at the fifth
annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and
Field Championships held at Rose-Hulman on February 22. The
Engineers men scored 296 points in the 17 events to hold off
Anderson’s 106 point effort to claim their fifth straight
HCAC men’s indoor track title. The Franklin
women’s track team earned their first indoor title, holding
off Manchester by just two points.
The Franklin women’s team won four different events,
tallying 119 points. Senior Anna Murdock (Trafalgar,
Ind./Indian Creek) set a HCAC indoor meet record in the
800-meter run with a winning time of 2:20.27, while also winning
the mile run. Juniors Natavia Howell (Indianapolis,
Ind./Howe) and Emily Young (Avon,
Ind./H.S.) also won events Sunday, claiming titles in the
60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles.
Manchester placed second in the women’s team standings
with 117 points, while Hanover placed third with 92 points.
Rose-Hulman finished fourth with 79 points and was followed by
Anderson (76 points), Bluffton (64), Defiance (48), Transylvania
(47), Mount St. Joseph (1), and Earlham (8).
