N. MANCHESTER, IN – The Hanover College women’s track and field team held off Franklin College at the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held at Manchester University on April 26-27.  The Panthers scored 179 points in the 20 events to hold off Franklin’s 144 point effort to claim the school’s third straight HCAC women’s outdoor track title. 

The Hanover women’s team won five events on its way to the conference championship.  Sophomore Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas/Ellison) won the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.48 and 26.07 respectively. Senior Lexi Vincz (Greenfield, Ind./Eastern Hancock) claimed the title in the 400-meter hurdles with a conference record time of 1:02.95.  Freshman Holli Leslie (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) won the triple jump with a leap of 10.88 meters, while Emily Boyd (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) took the title in the hammer throw (43.09 m).

Four other conference records were broken at the 2013 championships.  Rose-Hulman’s Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) and Liz Evans (Bicknell, Ind./North Knox) set new records.  Clauser earned the mark in 400-meter dash with a time of 57.67, while Evans broke her own record in the high jump (1.79 m).  Franklin’s Anna Murdock (Trafalgar, Ind./Indian Creek) set a new HCAC record in the 800-meter run (2:15.65) and was also a member of Franklin’s record breaking 4-x-400-meter relay squad (4:00.07).

Franklin finished second in the women team standings with 144 points with Defiance placing third with 111 points. Manchester finished fourth with 107.5 points and was followed by Rose-Hulman (91.5 points), Anderson (88), Bluffton (29), Earlham (21), Transylvania (7), and Mount St. Joseph (1).
