ANDERSON, Ind. - The Anderson University athletics department and Athletic Director Marcie Taylor have named Matt Barreiro as the Anderson head women's basketball coach.
Barreiro returns to Anderson with 14 years of collegiate coaching experience. He has spent six years as head coach, including two years as a dual head coach.
Barreiro spent two years as the assistant women's basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at Washburn University. He coached a two-time all-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) post, two all-MIAA guards and a MIAA co-Newcomer of the Year. The Ichabods made a five-win improvement during Barreiro's second season, finishing the year 18-13.
Barreiro served as the head women's basketball coach at the Central Christian College of Kansas from 2021-23. After inheriting a roster size of eight upon arrival at Central Christian, Barreiro immediately contributed to Central Christian's roster growth by bringing in 11 recruits in his first class.
Barreiro spent six years as a head coach at The King's University (TKU) in Canada. He served as the head men's basketball coach from 2014-20 and doubled as the women's basketball coach from 2015-17. Barreiro led TKU to its best men's season in nine years and its best women's season in five years. On the men's side, Barreiro coached TKU's two all-time leading scorers and recruited the only three men's players in school history to play professionally.
Barreiro served as the Anderson assistant women's basketball coach from 2012-14. He has also had stints as the assistant women's basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at both St. Ambrose University and Hannibal-LaGrange University.
