HCAC 2026 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Notebook, Week 5

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field teams competed in week five of the 2026 season.

Athletes of the Week: 
Men’s Throws Athlete of the Week:
Joe Johnson (Woodland Park, Colo.) Franklin College | Throws | Freshman - Johnson had himself a day in the javelin at the Indiana Little State Championships! His toss of 60.22m on his final threw broke the existing FC school record by nearly 4 meters, #2 HCAC all-time being the second man over the 60 meter barrier, #1 currently in the HCAC, #2 in the GL region, and #21 NCAA DIII. 

Men’s Jumps Athlete of the Week:
Markieus Hill (Lexington, Ky.) Transylvania University | Jumps | Senior - Markieus jumped a new lifetime best of 13.64m in the triple jump at Centre Twilight. His new school record is #2 in the HCAC and #11 in the Great Lakes Region. 

Men's Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week:
Gentry Oliver (Bryan, Texas) Manchester University | Sprints | Junior - Gentry Oliver ran 22.27 in the 200m and finished 3rd at the Mike Becraft Invite. This time is a lifetime PR and is the 9th fastest time in Manchester history, which also has him ranked 4th in the HCAC this season. 

Men's Distance Athlete of the Week:
Xaiden Jenson (McCordsville, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Distance | First Year - Xaiden Jenson placed 10th in the 800m at the Gibson Invitational with a time of 1:56.68.

Notable Performances:
Throws
  • Michael Sweigart (Alexandria, Ind.) Anderson University | Throws | Senior - Michael Sweigart won Little State in the hammer with a 58.09m throw.
  • Alex Trusty (Silver Lake, Ind.) Manchester University | Throws | Sophomore - Alex threw a PR in Hammer with a 46.93m throw which placed him #10 in the HCAC this season and #9 all-time in Manchester history. He also threw 12.75m in shotput and 39.48m in discus, which was the 2nd best throw of discus in his career.
  • Skyler Hughes (Huber Heights, Ohio) Mount St. Joseph University | Throws | First Year - Skyler breaks into the MSJ top-5 all-time list in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 44.08m, which places him at 15th in the HCAC.
  • Antoine Cooper (Indianapolis, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Throws | Senior - Antoine Cooper placed 8th in the hammer throw with a throw of 166'11" and 9th in discus with a throw of 156'9" at the Gibson Invitational. 
Jumps
  • Joaquin Bautista (Buenos Aires, Argentina) Anderson University | Jumps | Senior - Joaquin had a personal record of .4m in the Triple Jump. 
  • Chris Rene (Logansport, Ind.) Manchester University | Jumps | Junior - Chris Rene jumped 13.13m in the long jump and finished 1st at the Mike Becraft Invite by over 2 feet. This jump also has him ranked 4th in the HCAC and 22nd in the region this season. 
  • Kolton Nanko (Yorktown, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Jumps | Junior - Kolton Nanko placed 7th in the pole vault at the Gibson Invitational with a 15' 1.50". 
Sprints/Hurdles
  • Andrew Shields (Bryan, Texas) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Sprints | Sophomore - Andrew Shields placed 10th in the 400m at the Gibson Invitational with a time of 48.56.
