HCAC 2025-26 Men's Indoor Track & Field Notebook, Week 4

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field teams competed in week four of the 2025-26 season.

Athletes of the Week: 
Men’s Throws Athlete of the Week:
Antoine Cooper (Indianapolis, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Throws | Senior - Antoine Cooper was the top thrower for Rose-Hulman at the Rose-Hulman Classic. Cooper earned a third-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.67m.

Men’s Jumps Athlete of the Week:
Kenneth Redd Jr. (Dayton, Ohio) Manchester University | Jumps | Junior - Kenneth Redd Jr. won the long jump this weekend at the Steemer Showcase.  His season-best is second in the HCAC, eighth in the Great Lakes Region, and 20th in the nation.

Men's Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week:
Kenneth Redd Jr. (Dayton, Ohio) Manchester University | Sprints | Junior - Kenneth Redd Jr. set a new indoor school record in the 400m dash over the weekend. His time of 49.33 is also a conference-leading mark and the second best time in HCAC history.

Men's Distance Athlete of the Week:
Gavin Byerly (Huntington, Ind.) Manchester University | Distance | Senior - Gavin Byerly won the 3000m race at the Steemer Showcase this weekend with a time of 8:11.82.  His conference-leading time is second in school history, second in HCAC history, first in the Great Lakes Region, and 12th in the nation.

Notable Performances:
Throws
  • Alex Trusty (Silver Lake, Ind.) Manchester University | Throws | Sophomore - Alex Trusty threw 13.16m in the shot put at the Steemer Showcase over the weekend. That mark is Trusty’s second-best career throw.
Jumps
  • Teancum Palmer (Great Falls, Mont.) Berea College | Jumps | Freshman - Teancum Palmer jumped a personal record of 12.44m in his first collegiate triple jump competition. The jump currently sits fourth all-time in Berea's indoor school records and eighth in the conference.
  • Logan Brown (Fountain City, Ind.) Earlham College | Jumps | Freshman - Logan Brown posted a PR of more than half a meter in the long jump at 6.62m which lands him at third in the conference. It improved on his previous best mark of 6.04m. Brown finished the day with a runner-up finish in the event. The jump also landed him at No. 2 in school history.
  • James Kaunas (Johnsburg, Ill.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Jumps | Senior - James Kaunas was the standout for Rose-Hulman at the Rose-Hulman Classic. He earned an event win in the triple jump with a mark of 13.13m. He also earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.29m.

Sprints/Hurdles
  • Brayden Wilkins (New Palestine, Ind.) Anderson University | Sprints | Sophomore - Brayden Wilkins had a career day at the Rose-Hulman Classic, running 6.99 in the 60m dash, going under the seven-second threshold for the first time and strengthening his already existing school record. He is currently ranked second in the HCAC with that mark.
  • Andrew Shields (Bryan, Texas) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Jumps | Junior - Andrew Shields led the sprints team for Rose-Hulman at the Rose-Hulman Classic. Shields recorded an event win in the 400m dash with a time of 50.37. He was also a member of the third-place finishing 4x400m relay team with a time of 3:29.46.

Distance
  • Sam Rinker (Noblesville, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Distance | Sophomore - Sam Rinker led Rose-Hulman this week at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational with a record-breaking performance in the 3000m run. Rinker broke the school record in the event with a time of 8:31.26. His time ranks second in the HCAC this season.
  • Xander Harris (London, Ky.) Transylvania University | Distance | First-year - Xander Harris took his second heat win of the season at the Steemer Showcase running a personal-best of 1:59.32. This is his first time under 2:00 in the indoor 800m.
