Softball 5/9/2025 9:10:37 PM 2025 HCAC Softball Championship – Day 2 Recap LEXINGTON, Ky. – The second day of the 2025 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Softball Championship was packed full of action and close contests, with No. 1 Transylvania University advancing to Saturday unbeaten. 2025 HCAC Softball Championship Page In the first game of the day, the No. 3 seeded Earlham College defeated No. 5 Manchester 4 - 3, sending the Spartans home. Game two featured two teams trying to fight their way out of the losers bracket, with the No. 4 seed Franklin Grizzlies taking on the No. 6 seed Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Grizzlies came out on top, 6 - 4. The third contest of the day featured the first two games winners from earlier in the day, as Earlham and Franklin would play to determine who would see day three of the tournament and who would be eliminated. Franklin pulled out the narrow victory, 5-4. In the final game of the day, it was a battle of the two tournament unbeatens, with top seeded Transylvania facing No. 2 seed Mount St. Joseph. After holding them scoreless for the first six innings, the Pioneers held off a 7th inning push from the Lions and came away with the 3-1 victory. Saturday will feature two games in the double elimination tournament. No. 3 Franklin and No. 2 Mount St. Joseph will look to punch their ticket to the championship in game one, with first pitch slated for 12:30 p.m. Transylvania will await the winner of game one for the day’s second contest at 3 p.m. Transylvania hopes to get a win in tomorrow's 3 p.m. game. Doing so would give them the championship title. If Transylvania is defeated in the second contest, it would force an additional game to be contested on Sunday to determine a champion That ‘if-necessary’ game would be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
