Rose-Hulman Wins 2025 HCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships

BEREA, Ky. - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) concluded the 2025 Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Berea College Outdoor Track.
 
The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers earned the title of 2025 HCAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Champions scoring a total of 196 points. The Spartans from Manchester University, the defending champions of the event, finished in second place with a total of 173 points. The Panthers from Hanover College claimed third place with a total of 117 points.

Men’s Newcomer of the Year: Brandon Bensouda, Hanover 
Most Outstanding Male Throws Athlete of the Year: Antoine Cooper, Rose-Hulman 
Most Outstanding Male Jumps Co-Athletes of the Year: Desmond Gist, Bluffton and Markeius Hill, Transylvania
Most Outstanding Male Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year: Brandon Bensouda, Hanover
Most Outstanding Distance Co-Athletes of the Year: Gavin Byerly, Manchester and Connor Havens, Manchester 
Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, led by head coach Shane Mills.  Assistant Coaches are: Derrick Lawrence and Emily Lawrence.
 
All-Conference Honors:

Each athlete and relay team that finished their respective events in First Place are named First Team HCAC All-Conference; Second Place finishers are named to the HCAC All-Conference Second Team; and Third Place finishers are named to the Honorable Mention HCAC All-Conference Teams.

The men’s javelin throw opened up day two on the men’s side, which resulted in Coen North of Bluffton University claiming the title with a distance of 57.27 meters.
 
Bluffton's Desmond Gist claimed the men's Long Jump title after a jump of 6.88 meters. For his efforts this weekend, the senior was named the HCAC Most Outstanding Male Jumps Co-Athlete of the Year.

Franklin's Alexander Shaevitz claimed the high jump event with a height of 1.93 meters.

In the men's triple jump, Markeius Hill of Transylvania claimed the title with a distance of 13.56 meters. For his efforts this weekend, the junior joined Desmond Gist  (Bluffton) as the HCAC Most Outstanding Male Jumps Co-Athlete of the Year.

Jack Tucker of Mount St. Joseph won the title in the men’s Hammer with a throw of 57.97.
 
The men’s 4x100 meter relay was a highly contested race from start to finish, with Hanover's team of Anthony Lloyd, Layden Adair, Jayden Enderle, and Brandon Bensouda winning the event. The Panthers relay team posted a time of 42.13 seconds to best the competition.

The men’s 1500 meter run saw Gavin Byerly of Manchester finish with a time of 4:03.52, claiming the title. 
 
The men’s 110-meter hurdles champion was Desmond Gist of Bluffton, who paced the field with a 14.56.
 
The men’s 400 meter dash champion was decided by .29 seconds as sophomore Steven Scott of Franklin College winning with a time of 48.55 seconds.
 
The men’s 100 meter dash saw Brandon Bensouda of Hanover on the top step of the podium with a time of 10.76 seconds.
 
The men’s 800 meter run saw Gavin Byerly of Manchester University pace the field ,blazing his path to the HCAC 800 meter title with a time of 1:55.84 seconds. For his efforts this weekend, Byerly was named the HCAC Male Distance Co-Athlete of the Year, sharing that distinction with his Spartan teammate, Connor Havens.
 
Grady Shay of Hanover found himself at the top of the HCAC podium in the men’s 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.45 seconds.
 
The HCAC Most Outstanding Male Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year and HCAC Men's Newcomer of the Year Brandon Bensouda of Hanover was crowned champion in the men’s 200 meter dash with a time of 21.84 seconds.
 
Connor Havens of Manchester would best the field in the men’s 5000 meter run with a time of 14:57.45.

The men’s 4x400 meter relay was the final event of the day, and saw the Grizzlies of Franklin finish in first place. The team of Steven Scott, Luke Paddock, Nathan Vujaklija, and Logan McIntosh posted a time of 3:22.13, which was enough for the HCAC championship.
