CANTON, Ohio – Missed opportunities proved costly as the Mount St. Joseph University football team fell 40–21 to Westminster College in the programs’ first-ever meeting Saturday in the Extra Points Bowl, presented by the Opendorse Bowl Series.
Westminster struck quickly, scoring on its first two possessions to take a 14–0 lead into the second quarter. After the Lions punted on three consecutive drives and trailed 20–0, the Mount offense came alive when quarterback Jaxon Schreiber connected with Michael Hunkus on a 65-yard touchdown pass—despite the ball initially appearing to be intercepted—cutting the deficit to 20–7.
The Mount St. Joseph defense forced a three-and-out on the ensuing possession, and the Lions needed just four plays to cover 68 yards, as Schreiber again went deep, this time hitting Eli Aston for a 65-yard score that made it 20–14.
Westminster answered with two touchdowns before halftime to carry a 33–14 advantage into the locker room.
The Titans extended their lead in the third quarter thanks to an interception that set up another touchdown, pushing the margin to 40-14.
Trailing by 26 late in the fourth quarter, Schreiber evaded a sack on third down, scrambled, and launched a deep ball to Aston for a touchdown with 4:53 remaining, accounting for the final 40–21 margin.
Schreiber finished 23-of-44 for 337 yards and three touchdowns. Aston led all receivers with six receptions for 121 yards and two scores. Defensively, Brady Pierce paced the Lions with 10 total tackles, including two for loss.
The Lions close out their 2025 season with a 6-5 overall record, while finishing 2nd in the HCAC with a 5-1 record in conference play.
