CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) men’s basketball teams competed in week two of the 2025-26 season.

Athlete of the Week:
Joey Schmitz (Bargersville, Ind.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Guard | Sophomore - Joey Schmitz helped lead Rose-Hulman to a 1-1 record this week, where it lost to Wabash, 85-68 and defeated Illinois Tech, 73-72. Joey recorded 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting, while going 2-for-4 from three-point range and 2-for-2 at the free throw line with two steals. He followed up that performance with 32 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the floor against Illinois Tech where he shot 7-for-9 from three-point range. He added four rebounds, two assists and one steal in the match. Overall, he finished the week averaging 26.0 points per game on 19-for-30 (63.3 percent) shooting from the floor and 9-for-13 (69.2 percent) shooting from three-point range.
Notable Performances:
- Elijah Mattingly (Beech Grove, Ind.) Anderson University | Wing | Senior - Elijah Mattingly contributed 20 points in Wednesday's loss to DePauw. Fifteen of his 20 came from beyond-the-arc as he went 6-for-14 from the field.
- Bryce Riley (Bardstown, Ky.) Berea College | Guard | Senior - Bryce Riley opened the season in impressive fashion, averaging 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over two games. He posted 24 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Asbury, followed by 19 points and 6 boards against Centre.
- Nevin Robson (Kenton, Ohio) Bluffton University | Forward | Senior - Nevin Robson averaged 13.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as Bluffton lost a pair of tight home contests to Ohio Northern and Hiram. He went 9-for-21 from the field and 2-for-3 from deep. Robson picked up four steals and handed out three assists for the Beavers.
- Justin Harrington (Indianapolis, Ind.) Franklin College | Guard | Sophomore - Justin Harrington rose to the occasion off the bench for the 3-0 Grizzlies, scoring 23 points in 24 minutes to lead the way to a 93-84 double-overtime victory at Knox. He shot 8-for-15 from the field, going 8-for-10 inside the arc, and 7-for-8 from the foul line.
- CJ Walls (Louisville, Ky.) Hanover College | Guard/Forward | Junior - CJ Walls led the Panthers past Spalding last week, tying a game-high 14 points. The junior also pulled in eight rebounds with two made three-pointers.
- Ty Lynas (Crawfordsville, Ind.) Manchester University | Guard | Graduate - Ty Lynas helped jump-start the Manchester offense this weekend. Lynas put up 26 on 10-for-21 shooting against Cal Lutheran on Friday, while also scoring 17 points on 5-for-14 shooting against La Roche on Saturday. Despite the Spartans losing both games, Lynas added 11 rebounds and four assists to the box score.
- Drew Marshall (Nicholasville, Ky.) Transylvania University | Guard | Junior - Drew Marshall had two stand out performances to start the 2025-26 season. In a season opening loss against Muskingum on Friday, Marshall led the Pioneers with 18 points and seven rebounds. On Saturday, a 70-68 victory over Berry, Marshall again led the Pioneers with 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
