CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) baseball teams competed in week one of the 2024 season.

Hitter of the Week:
Henry Mitcham (Lexington, Ky.) Transylvania University | Infield | Junior - Mitcham had an excellent week for the 3-0 Pioneers, hitting .643 (9-14), with 9 RBI's, 4 doubles, a home run, and 2 walks.
Pitching Athlete of the Week:
Luke Harmon (Columbus, Ind.) Franklin College | Pitcher | First Year - Tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief on Friday afternoon as Franklin rallied to beat Rhodes on opening day…struck out three and walked one while allowing only two hits against a Lynx team receiving votes in the DIII pre-season poll.

Notable Performances:
Justin Reed (Martinsville, Ind.) Anderson University | Short Stop | Graduate - Justin Reed went 4-for-6 with a double, 4 RBI and 3 runs as Anderson split Sunday's doubleheader with Trine. Reed slashed a line of .667/.625/.833.
Noah Wathen (Floyd Knobs, Ind.) Anderson University | Pitcher | First Year - Noah Wathen recorded a three-inning save in Game 1 against Trine. He threw three scoreless innings while allowing two hits, zero walks and striking out three batters.
Max Fries (Cleves, Ohio) Earlham College | Outfield | Graduate - Max Fries led the Quakers at the plate on opening weekend against Olivet. The fifth-year senior hit .545 with six hits, one double and one triple. Fries scored six runs, and drove in six more. He also earned two walks and stole three bags.
Kyle Jeffries (Gilbert, Ariz.) Earlham College | Pitcher | First Year - Kyle Jeffries pitched four innings in his collegiate debut for the Quakers. The freshman recorded three strikeouts, and earned the winning decision. Jeffries allowed just three hits and one earned run.
Griffin Garwood (Fishers, Ind.) Manchester University | Outfield / Utility | Senior - Griffin Garwood finished the weekend with a .667 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage as the Spartans split their opening weekend against Wabash and Marian (Wis.). The senior had two RBIs, two doubles, and scored a run.
Jackson Todor (Fort Wayne, Ind.) Manchester University | Pitcher | Sophomore - Jackson Tudor threw 2.0 innings without allowing a hit or a run as he earned his first save of the season against Marian (Wis.) on Sunday.
Anton Mere (Centerville, Ohio) Mount St. Joseph University | Outfield | Junior - Lions junior outfielder Anton Mere had a fantastic opening weekend for the Lions. He was 7-for-11 (.636) at the plate from the leadoff spot, with 5 RBIs, 4 stolen bases, 3 runs scored, 2 walks and a double. 
Matt Armstrong (Louisville, Ky.) Transylvania University | Pitcher | Senior - Armstrong earned a save and a win this weekend. On Saturday, he pitched 1.1 innings, striking out two batters and earning the save. In yesterday's win over Roanoke, Armstrong threw 2.1 innings in relief, giving up just two hits and striking out three batters before getting the win.
