HCAC 2023 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Notebook, Week 8

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) outdoor track and field teams competed in week eight of the 2023 season.

Athletes of the Week:  

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week:  

Gabe Melvin (Jacksonville, Fla.) Manchester University | Senior- Melvin ran a new personal best in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 10.84 seconds. Melvin's time ties the second best time in Manchester school history and is .01 seconds off from the Manchester school record. 
 

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: 

Ben Villafuerte (Angola, Ind.) Manchester University | Senior- Villafuerte compete in the Mount Union Last Chance Qualifier last week, finishing the shot put in third with a mark of 15.74m.  
 

 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: 

Brooke Bouwens (Lake Odessa, Mich.) Manchester University | Senior- Bouwens competed in the 400m hurdles at the Mount Union Chance Last Qualifier last week, where she finished in a time of 1:05.12 for fourth place. 
 

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: 

Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind.) Manchester University | Sophomore- Camp took second place in the discus at Thursday's last chance qualifier with a distance of 40.66m. Camp also took second in the shot put with a mark of 13.72m.

Men’s  

  • Joey Bonham (Vanlue, Ohio.) Bluffton University | Sophomore- Bonham wrapped up his 2023 outdoor campaign with a leap of 1.88 meters in the high jump at Mount Union on Thursday. It was just shy of his 1.91-meter jump at the HCAC Championships that earned him a silver medal three weeks ago.
