CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) softball teams competed in week one of the 2021 season.

Athletes of the Week:
Hitting Athlete of the Week:
Emily Hestand (Versailles, Ky.) Transylvania University | Infield | Junior – Hestand went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate for the Pioneers during their 4-0 start to the season. She collected seven RBI, had a home run and a stolen base.
Pitching Athlete of the Week:
Kamryn McCool (Brookville, Ind.) Mount St, Joseph University | Pitcher | Senior - McCool got her season started by appearing in three of the four games the Lions played this weekend. McCool finished with a 1-1 record pitching 15.2 innings with an ERA of 0.89. McCool recorded 13 strikeouts while only walking three hitters. McCool helped the Lions take down No. 1 DePauw with a complete game only giving up one run and striking out four hitters as she recorded the win.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Ali Lang (Eminence, Ind.) Mount St. Joseph University | Outfield | Junior - Lang got her season off to a fast start. Over four games Lang hit .455 with five hits and helped the No. 13 Lions take down No. 1 DePauw on Sunday.
  • Carlee Jeter (Lexington, Ky.) Transylvania University | Pitcher | Sophomore – Jeter appeared in three games and started two, going a perfect 2-0 on the weekend. In 12 innings of work, she collected 15 strikeouts.
