Rose-Hulman Wins 2021 HCAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology captured the men’s title on Sunday in the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship.
 
COMPLETE RESULTS

The Fightin’ Engineers cruised to victory, scoring 194 points. Manchester University notched 104.5 points to finish second, with Defiance College capturing third with 66 points. Hanover College placed fourth with 58 points while Transylvania was just behind with 56 points. Bluffton University and Franklin College finished in a tie for sixth with 53 points apiece. Earlham College (31.50) and Anderson University (25) finished eighth and ninth respectively.
 
The day got started on the track in the 5000 meter, with Manchester sweeping the event top-three and Enrique Salazar earning the title with a time of 15:45.18. In the Distance Relay, it was Franklin who took first, with the team of Jaycee Wilbrun, Michael Heading, Eli Cochrane and Andrew Hargis teaming up for a time of 11:10.77.
 
In the 4x200 relay it was the Rose-Hulman team of Raymond Bates, Rashard Brown, Jacob Bird and Noah Thomas who finished first, with a time of 1:32.31. In the mile,  Jacob Burnam won the first event for Transylvania, racing a time of 4:21.40.
 
In a tightly contested 60 meter dash, Gabriel Melvin of Defiance came out on top, besting the competition with a run of 6.98 seconds. Desmond Gist from Bluffton picked up the Beavers first win, taking the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.62. In the 400 meter dash, Jacob Bird of Rose-Hulman finished on top, with a run of 51.63 taking the event.
 
In the 800 meter run Jacob Burnam raced himself back on top of the podium, turning in a time of 1:57.98. In the 200 meter dash, Noah Thomas ran a time of 22.84 to pick up the win.
 
In the final two events of the championship, Enrique Salazar won the 3000 meter race. Rose-Hulman capped off their big day, winning the 4x400 meter relay with the team of Raymond Bates, Jacob Eve, Jacob Bird and Noah Thomas turning in a time of 3:31.68 for the win.  
 
In the field events, the Pole Vault was the first event of the day, with Mikey Holtz clearing a height of 3.85 meters for the win. In the weight throw Franklin’s Zak Wiley’s throw of 15.34 meters placed him on top of the podium. In the other throwing event, the shot put, Josh Krsek bested the competition with a throw of 13.13 meters and no fouls.
 
In the high jump, Reece Hunter from Hanover cleared a height of 1.81 meters to take first in the event.
 
In the long jump, familiar face Noah Thomas from Rose-Hulman picked up a win, with a leap of 6.58 meters. Fellow Fightin’ Engineer Timothy Youndt won the triple jump event, clearing 13.67 meters for the win.
 
The HCAC recognizes the top three finishers in events as HCAC All-Conference. The complete list of HCAC All-Conference honorees are listed below. In a vote of league coaches, the following student-athletes were honored with the marque awards of the meet:
