CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced the Women’s Soccer All-Conference and marquee awards winners on Tuesday.
Hanover College earned two of the major award winners, with
Maggie Day (Sellersburg, Ind.) and
Josie Dattilo (Montgomery, Ohio) being named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year respectively. Day led the league in shots (63) and shots on goal (39), burying 14 goals and two assists to also lead the conference in points (30).
Dattilo was a force for the Panthers on defense, earning her second straight HCAC Defensive Player of the Year honor. She led Hanover in tackles, passing percentage (completing 86 percent of her passes), interceptions and recovered balls. She helped anchor a defense that only gave up four goals in league play.
McKenzie Schneeman (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named the 2021 HCAC Newcomer of the Year. The HCAC recognizes an individual in their first year of athletic participation who is a standout on the field. Schneeman was in the top-10 list of HCAC performers in league play in shots (20) and shots on goal (14) and led the league in goals (nine) and points (19). She also notched a conference-high four game-winning goals in 2021.
In his first season at the helm of the Mount St. Joseph program,
Darren Gallagher led the Lions to the 2021 regular season title and a No. 1 seed in the 2021 HCAC Championship. Gallagher was named the 2021 HCAC Coach of the Year in a vote of league coaches, after posting an 8-0-1 mark in conference play and a 11-7-1 overall record.
