GREENWOOD, IN – The HCAC women’s basketball tournament will get underway Friday night with opening round action from Transylvania.  The six-team tournament will decide who receives the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.  The event will be held at Transylvania University, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Transylvania (24-1, 18-0 HCAC) heads into the tournament as the only school to go 18-0 in HCAC action, winning the conference title for the sixth time in school history.

The Pioneers posted a 10-0 record against the five other schools involved in the conference tournament.  Hanover (17-8, 13-5 HCAC) and Franklin (14-10, 12-6 HCAC) earned a 5-5 mark against the field, while Bluffton (17-8, 12-6 HCAC) finished 4-6.  Manchester (13-12, 10-8 HCAC) and Rose-Hulman (13-12, 9-9 HCAC) stood 3-7 against the tourney teams.

Top seed Transylvania will take on the winner of Bluffton and Manchester Saturday afternoon in the HCAC semifinals.  Transylvania posted a sweep of the Beavers and Spartans this season.

Bluffton claimed a 7-3 record down the stretch, while Manchester went 5-5 heading into the postseason tournament.  The No. 4 seed Beavers will look to move into the semifinals with a win over No. 5 Manchester Friday night at Transylvania.  The two teams split their two regular season meetings.  BU and MU will tip at 6:00 PM Friday night at Transylvania University’s Beck Center.

The Hanover women will be searching for their third tournament championship this weekend.  The Panthers enter the 2015 tournament as the No. 2 seed and will tangle with the winner of Franklin and Rose-Hulman in the second semifinal at Transylvania Saturday.  The Panthers have won eight of 10 heading into the postseason and earned a split with Franklin and Rose-Hulman during their meetings this season.

Franklin claimed the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 Rose-Hulman at 8:00 PM Friday night at Transylvania.  The Grizzlies swept the Engineers during their regular season meetings.  Franklin has gone 6-4 down the stretch, while Rose has earned a 4-6 mark during that span.  The winner of Friday night’s game will advance to the semis to face Hanover at Transy Saturday evening.

The HCAC tournament championship game will take place at 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon at Transylvania.

Tickets will be $8.00 per session ($5.00 for students and senior citizens).  Children under the age of 11 are free.
