Rose-Hulman Wins Fifth Straight HCAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Title

TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s and Franklin College women’s track and field team earned titles at the fifth annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Rose-Hulman on February 22.  The Engineers men scored 296 points in the 17 events to hold off Anderson’s 106 point effort to claim their fifth straight HCAC men’s indoor track title.  The Franklin women’s track team earned their first indoor title, holding off Manchester by just two points.

The Rose-Hulman men had 10 event winners. Senior Stuart West (LaPorte, Ind./H.S.) claimed the title in the mile and the 3,000-meters.  Senior Vashon Solomon (Greensboro, NC/Southeast Guilford) set a new HCAC record in the triple jump with a winning mark of 13.83 meters.

Anderson placed second in the men’s team standings with 106 points.  Bluffton University tallied 68 points and was followed by Defiance College (51.5 points), Hanover College (45), Franklin College (40), Manchester University (37.5), Transylvania University (14), Earlham College (3), and Mount St. Joseph University (1).
