Rose-Hulman Men Claim Seventh Straight HCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship

DEFIANCE OH – The Rose-Hulman Institute
of Technology men’s track and field team held off Franklin
College at the 2014 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
Championships held at Defiance College on April 25-26. The
Engineers scored 252.5 points in the 20 events to hold off
Franklin’s 118.5 point effort to claim the school’s
seventh straight HCAC men’s outdoor track title.
The Rose-Hulman men had three event winners. Freshman
Nathan Green (Columbus, Ind./North) claimed the
title in the pole vault with a mark of 4.43 meters. Freshman
Brendan Smyth (Antwerp, Belgium/International
School) won the triple jump with a leap of 13.08
meters. Freshman Andrew Okruch (Mt. Washington,
Ky./Bullitt East) completed the first-place efforts for
the Engineers with a winning mark of 14.90 meters in the shot
put.
Two men's conference records were broken at the 2014
championships. Defiance’s Troy Parrett
(Cedarville, Ohio/H.S.) earned the mark in 800-meter run
with a time of 1:55.34, while Anderson’s Max Kittle
(Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) set a new conference record
in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 52.51.
Franklin finished second in the men’s team standings with
118.5 points with Manchester placing third with 99 points. Anderson
finished fourth with 81 points and was followed by Defiance (66.5
points), Bluffton (60.5), Hanover (43), Mount St. Joseph (24),
Earlham (21), and Transylvania (14).
