TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s and Hanover College women’s track and field team held off Defiance and Rose-Hulman at the second annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Terre Haute on February 18.  The Engineers men scored 262 points in the 16 events to hold off Defiance’s 112.5 point effort to claim their second straight HCAC men’s indoor track title.  The Hanover women’s track team earned their first indoor title, holding off host Rose-Hulman by a single point in a highly contested meet.

The Rose-Hulman men had nine event winners. Junior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) claimed individual titles in three different events at the meet.  The junior won the 60- meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, and also claimed first place in the 400-meter dash.  The Rose Hulman 800-meter relay team and 1,600-meter relay team were the fastest on the day, winning the conference titles in each event.  Four other Engineers also earned conference titles in their respective events Saturday.

Defiance placed second in the men’s team standings with 112.5 points.  Manchester College tallied 81.5 points and was followed by Franklin College (50 points), Anderson University (45), Earlham College (32.5), Hanover College (15), College of Mount St. Joseph (11), Transylvania University (7), and Bluffton University (6.5).
