HANOVER, IN – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s track and field team held off Franklin at the 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held at Hanover College on April 29-30.  The Engineers scored 226.5 points in the 20 events to hold off Franklin’s 123 point effort to claim the school’s fourth straight HCAC men’s outdoor track title.  The Hanover women’s track team earned their first track and field title in school history, holding off Defiance and Franklin in a highly contested meet.

The Rose-Hulman men had eight event winners. Junior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) claimed titles in three different events at the meet.  The freshman won both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles and was also a member of the first place 4x400-meter relay team.  Senior Derek Bischak (Angola, Ind./H.S.) and senior Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) set new HCAC meet records.  Bischak set the new mark in the 1,500-meter run (3:56.78), while Bouagnon earned the record in the 400-meter dash (48.44).

Franklin placed second in the men’s team standings with 123 points. Manchester College tallied 88.5 points and was followed by Defiance College (80 points), Anderson University (74), Earlham College (59), College of Mount St. Joseph (53), Hanover College (52), Bluffton University (13), and Transylvania University (11).
