Rose-Hulman Men Claim Inaugural HCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship

ANDERSON, IN – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s and women’s track and field team held off Franklin and Defiance at the inaugural Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Anderson on February 19.  The Engineers scored 241 points in the 16 events to hold off Defiance’s 100 point effort to claim the first ever HCAC men’s indoor track title.  The Rose women’s track team earned the first indoor title, holding off Franklin and Hanover in a highly contested meet.

The Rose-Hulman men had eight event winners. Sophomore Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) claimed individual titles in two different events at the meet.  The sophomore won the 55- meter hurdles and also claimed first place in the triple jump.  Senior Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) placed first in the 200 and 400-meter dashes, while senior Derek Bischak (Angola, Ind./H.S.) earned the title in both the 800-meters and mile run.  The Rose Hulman 800-meter relay team and 1,600-meter relay team were the fastest on the day, winning the conference titles in each event.

Defiance placed second in the men’s team standings with 100 points. Anderson University tallied 61.5 points and was followed by Franklin College (60 points), College of Mount St. Joseph (57), Earlham College (46.5), Manchester College (28), Hanover College (24), and Transylvania University (6).  Bluffton did not post a team score.
