CINCINNATI, OH – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s track and field team held off Manchester at the 2010 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held at Mount St. Joseph on April 30-May 1.  The Engineers scored 176.5 points in the 20 events to hold off Manchester’s 129.5 point effort to claim the school’s third straight HCAC men’s track title.  The Franklin women’s track team earned their first track and field title in school history, holding off Defiance in a highly contested meet.

The Rose-Hulman men had seven event winners. Sophomore Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) claimed titles in three different events at the meet for the second straight year.  The sophomore won both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles and also claimed first place in the triple jump.  Junior Derek Bischak (Angola, Ind./H.S.) posted the top time in the 1,500-meter run, earning the title with a time of 4:03.83.  Sophomore Micah Aldrich (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase crown with a time of 9:38.76.  The Rose-Hulman 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams were the fastest on the day, winning the conference titles with times of 43.37 and 3:20.83.

Manchester placed second in the men’s team standings with 129.5 points. Defiance College tallied 116 points and was followed by Franklin College (108 points), Anderson University (89), Hanover College (67), Bluffton University (46), College of Mount St. Joseph (30) and Transylvania University (17).
