Manchester Women Win First HCAC Indoor Track & Field Title

DEFIANCE, OH – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s and Manchester University women’s track and field team earned titles at the sixth annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Defiance College on February 20.  The Engineers men scored 286.83 points in the 17 events to hold off Anderson’s 87 point effort to claim their sixth straight HCAC men’s indoor track title.  The Manchester women’s track team earned their first indoor title, holding off Rose-Hulman by 12 points.

The Rose-Hulman men had eight event winners. The Engineers won all three relay events and captured individual titles in the 800-meters, mile run, pole vault, triple jump and shot put. Senior Brandon Loyer (Galion, Ohio/Northmor) set a new HCAC record in the mile run, winning the event with a time of 4:20.17

Anderson placed second in the men’s team standings with 87 points.  Hanover College tallied 83.5 points and was followed by Bluffton University (49 points), Manchester University (47.3), Franklin College (40), Transylvania University (29), Defiance College (27.3), Earlham College (8), and Mount St. Joseph University (5). 

The Manchester women’s team won three different events, tallying 113 points.  Junior Mariah Jordan (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) set a HCAC indoor meet record in the 5,000-meter run with a winning time of 18:12.25, while also winning the 3,000-meters. Junior Shay Aator (West Lafayette, Ind./H.S.) also won an event in record fashion Saturday, claiming the title in the weight throw with an HCAC-record heave of 16.77 meters.

Rose-Hulman placed second in the women’s team standings with 101 points, while Anderson placed third with 98 points. Hanover finished fourth with 96.5 points and was followed by Franklin (77 points), Transylvania (72.5), Bluffton (68), Defiance (31), Earlham (4.5), and Mount St. Joseph (1.5).
