Rose-Hulman Claims School's 1st HCAC Outdoor Track & Field Title

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's track and field teams won the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship held at Rose-Hulman on April 27-28. The Engineers scored 269.5 points in the 20 events to hold off Anderson's 115 point effort to claim the school's 11th straight HCAC men's outdoor track title. The Rose-Hulman women's track team earned its first outdoor track and field title after tallying 195 total points to defeat Manchester's 123 second place points.
The Rose-Hulman men had seven event winners including the both relay teams during the two day championship. Two conference records fell on the men's side. Bluffton's Gabe Makin (Elida, Ohio / Elida) won the pole vault in a record height of 4.91 meters and Rose-Hulman's Trey Sykes (Houston, Texas / Bay Area Christian) earned the triple jump crown with a record leap of 14.73 meters.
Anderson finished second in the men's team standings with 115 points with Hanover placing third with 105 points. Manchester finished fourth with 74 points and was followed by Bluffton (55.5 points), Earlham (46), Defiance (38), Franklin (30), Mount St. Joseph (27), and Transylvania (18).
The Rose-Hulman women's team won seven events and both relays on their way to the conference championship. Two conference records in the field events fell over the weekend for the women. Bluffton's Tori Bowen (Wapakoneta, Ohio / Elida) won the pole vault with a new height of 3.57 meters and Rose-Hulman's Gabi Razma (Durango, Colo. / Durango) earned the javelin title with a throw of 38.45 meters.
Manchester finished second in the women's team standings with 123 points with Hanover placing third with 97.5 points. Earlham finished fourth with 90 points and was followed by Bluffton (68 points), Anderson (54), Transylvania (41), Franklin (40), Defiance (36), and Mount St. Joseph (35.5).
