Anderson’s Wuestefeld and Frazier Win Top HCAC Softball Awards

GREENWOOD, IN – Anderson University's Amy Wuestefeld (Batesville, Ind./H.S.) and Sami Frazer (Greenfield, Ind./H.S.) have been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. The All-HCAC squad is selected by a vote of the nine conference head coaches.
Wuestefeld, a senior shortstop for the Ravens, guided her team to a 12-4 record during the HCAC softball regular season and captured a third consecutive conference tournament championship. She was the leader of the Anderson offensive effort all season long, hitting a conference best .578 at the plate with two doubles and 10 RBI in league play. Wuestefeld added 10 runs scored and 10 stolen bases, while posting an on-base percentage of .604.
Frazier, a freshman pitcher for the Ravens, was outstanding in the circle this year. She helped lead Anderson to the HCAC tournament title and earn the school's third straight NCAA tournament berth. She posted a 5-2 record during conference play this season. The freshman recorded a 0.17 earned run average by allowing just one earned run in 41.1 innings of work. Frazier struck out 35 opponents during the conference season and notched four complete games.
Overall for Anderson this year, Frazier sported a 0.74 earned run average and 10-2 overall record. She threw 75.2 innings and struck out 61 hitters.
The HCAC has also awarded the Freshman of the Year award to Anderson's Sami Frazier. Frazier not only contributed in the circle for the Ravens, she was also one of the top hitters on the squad in 2013. The freshman hit .500 during conference play this season, driving in seven RBI with two doubles and a home run for the Ravens during league play.
Anderson head coach Tony Holloway has been named HCAC Coach of the Year. Holloway, in his sixth season as head coach at Anderson, has led the Ravens to a 25-15 mark and a 12-4 record in the HCAC this season, including the HCAC tournament championship. The Ravens will be making their third straight trip to the NCAA tournament this weekend. This award is the also the third straight 'Coach of the Year' honor for Holloway while in charge at AU.
The Ravens open NCAA regional play against Trine in Angola, Indiana Thursday morning.
