Rose-Hulman Men Claim Seventh-Straight HCAC Indoor Track & Field Title

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and Hanover College women's track and field team earned titles at the seventh annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on February 18. The Engineers men scored 247.50 points in the 17 events to hold off Anderson's 92 point effort to claim their seventh straight HCAC men's indoor track title. The Hanover women's track team earned their third indoor title, holding off Rose-Hulman by four points.
The Rose-Hulman men had seven event winners. The Fightin' Engineers won the 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 relay events and captured individual titles in the 400-meters, 800-meters, 5,000-meters, triple jump and shot put. The winning 4-x-200 relay team of seniors Adam Wilson and Isaiah Smith, junior Josh Hennig, and sophomore David Borden set a new HCAC record in the event with a time of 1:30.35.
Anderson placed second in the men's team standings with 92 points. Bluffton University tallied 77 points and was followed by Hanover College (65.5 points), Manchester University (51), Franklin College (46), Transylvania University (41), Defiance College (28), Mount St. Joseph University (9), and Earlham College (5).
The Hanover women's team won two different events, tallying 130 points. Sophomore Teal Burnett (Marshall, Ill. / Marshall) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.03. Burnett was also a member of the 4-x-400 meter relay team that clinched the championship crown with a winning time of 4:12.35. Freshman Kenna Hunter, sophomore Brittany Ferrell, and senior Erika Jervis were also members of the winning relay team. Senior Savannah Hubbard (Madison, Ind. / Southwestern) finished in second place in the long jump (5.42 meters) and triple jump (10.85 meters) events. Hubbard also had a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.
Rose-Hulman placed second in the women's team standings with 126 points, while Manchester placed third with 120 points. Transylvania finished fourth with 61 points and was followed by Bluffton (57 points), Franklin (45.6), Defiance (43), Anderson (33), Mount St. Joseph (25.3), and Earlham (19).
