2026 HCAC Women's Soccer Notebook, Week 2

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) women’s soccer teams competed in week two of the 2026 season.

Athletes of the Week: 
Offensive Player of the Week:
Gracie Carrigan (Union, Ky.) Transylvania University | Forward | Junior - Gracie Carrigan had a strong week for Transylvania. In a 1-1 tie with Centre, Carrigan assisted on the game-tying goal in the second half. Then in Saturday's 4-0 win over Marietta, she scored two goals to lead Transylvania to victory.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Reagan Claus (Lowell, Ind.) Manchester University | Goalkeeper | Sophomore - Reagan Claus recorded 23 saves against 49 shots faced in an away game against Elmhurst on Sept. 9. She allowed a single goal in the contest.

Notable Performances:
Offense:
  • Cait Knepp (Nappanee, Ind.) Anderson University | Defense/Midfield | Senior - Cait Knepp produced two goals as Anderson went 2-0 on the week.
  • Mya Vernon (Toledo, Ohio) Bluffton University | Midfield | Senior - Mya Vernon tallied a pair of goals as Bluffton went 2-0 on the week, pushing their record to 4-1 for the first time since 1995. She fired five shots with four on frame.
  • Abby Smith (Harrison, Ohio) Hanover College | Forward | Freshman - Abby Smith led Hanover to a 2-1-0 week as she tallied two goals on seven shots, four of which landed on-frame. The freshman also netted one game-winner.
  • Sydnee Schuler (Bloomington, Ill.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Midfield | Junior - Sydnee Schuler helped Rose-Hulman post a 1-1 record on the week with a 7-1 victory over Greenville and a 2-0 loss to No. 1 WashU. She put together a phenomenal performance against Greenville, scoring the first two goals of the game, while attempting a team-high four shots in just 45 minutes.
Defense:
  • Jada Van Steenvoort (Galloway, Ohio) Anderson University | Goalkeeper | Senior - Jada Van Steenvoort saved each of the four shots she faced as Anderson shut out two opponents and went 2-0 on the week.
  • Madison Kutscher (Rossford, Ohio) Bluffton University | Goalkeeper | Sophomore - Madison Kutscher worked 90 minutes of scoreless soccer between the pipes earning two victories as the Beavers downed Great Lakes Christian and Owens Community College.  She finished with five saves.
  • Kendall Moore (Evansville, Ind.) Hanover College | Goalkeeper | Freshman - Kendall Moore led Hanover to a 2-1-0 week recording seven total saves through 270 minutes. She also added a pair of clean sheets against Wittenberg and Otterbein. The freshman also posted an 87.5 save percentage.
  • Alicia Gonzalez (Dallas, Texas) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Goalkeeper | Sophomore - The Fightin' Engineers posted a record of 1-1 in the week with a 7-1 win over Greenville and a 2-0 loss to No. 1 WashU. In the loss against WashU, Gonzalez recorded a career-high ten saves, finishing the match with an 83.3 save percentage. WashU came into the match averaging 10.7 goals per game and Gonzalez held it to just two.
  • Carrie Stevens (Winchester, Ky.) Transylvania University | Goalkeeper | Senior - Carrie Stevens had a game-changing performance in the goal against Centre on Wednesday, recording six saves, including two late that secured a 1-1 tie for Transylvania. Stevens recorded another save for seven on the week in the Pios' win over Marietta.
