Franklin wins 2021 HCAC Championship

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Franklin College battled on the road to win the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) title, downing Transylvania University on their home court on Wednesday, 73-54.

The Championship contest was the culmination of a shorted 2021 regular season, followed by a 10-team random draw tournament where Franklin and Transylvania met for the first time in the championship contest.

Five student athletes were named to the All-Tournament team, including Brandon Christlieb from Manchester University and Mark Albers of Hanover College, who were eliminated in the semifinal round.

Transylvania placed two on the All-Tournament team in seniors Lucas Gentry and Michael Jefferson. Franklin had two players earn recognition, with senior Ismail Jones earning recognition and junior Matt Krause named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

The Grizzlies became road warriors to capture the title, with their route to the championship taking them through Bluffton, Ohio then Manchester, Ind. and finally came to an end in Lexington, Ky.
