INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Franklin College's Brynna Sentel and Lexi Blackburn have been named 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming Athlete of the Year and Diving Athlete of the Year, respectively. The swim and dive duo led the Grizzlies to a first place finish at the championship February 14-16.
Sentel, a sophomore for Franklin, won three individual events at the 2019 HCAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The sophomore claimed individual titles in the 200-freestyle (1:51.68), the 500-freestyle (4:54.99) and the 100-backstoke (57.66) to pace the Grizzlies at the three-day championship. Sentel was also a member of four event relay victories at the championship and set a new conference record in every event.
Blackburn, a sophomore for the Grizzlies, has been named the Women's HCAC Diving Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. The sophomore took first place in the 1-meter board and the 3-meter board, breaking conference records in both, during the HCAC championship meet. On the first day of the championship, Blackburn claimed first in the 3-meter dive with a point total of 457.15. The sophomore then recorded another first place finish on Friday in the 1-meter dive with 527.45 points.
Franklin's Rylee Elder was awarded HCAC Freshman of the Year honors for her efforts at the championship meet. Elder claimed a second place finish in the 1,650-freestyle with a time of 18:30.55 and added a third place finish in 200-butterfly in a time of 2:20.95 at the three-day event.
Anderson's Megan Wills was named the HCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Ravens to a third place finish at the HCAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Ravens racked up a total of 320 points during the three-day championship event.
