GREENWOOD, IN – The 2012-13 HCAC men's basketball regular season has come to a close and the action shifts to tournament play this week.  The winner of the six-team HCAC Tournament will earn the conference's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (22-3, 16-2 HCAC) locked up the conference's top seed Saturday, defeating Hanover 59-57.  RHIT captured the school's first outright men's basketball conference championship as a member of the HCAC with the victory and will strive for their second consecutive HCAC tournament title this weekend.

Rose posted a 9-1 record against the HCAC tournament field, while Transylvania finished 7-3 against the qualifiers.  Hanover earned a 6-4 mark with Defiance claiming a 5-5 tally.  Franklin earned three wins against the field, while Mount St. Joseph finished 0-10 against its fellow competition.

The top seed Engineers are ranked No. 23 in the D3hoops.com poll, finishing the season with a 9-1 record down the stretch.  Rose-Hulman will take on the winner of Franklin and Defiance Friday night in the HCAC semifinals.  RHIT earned a season sweep of the Jackets and Grizzlies this winter.

Defiance (15-10, 11-7 HCAC) enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed and has posted victories in four of its last six games.  The Jackets will look to move into the semifinals with a win at home over No. 5 Franklin Tuesday night.  The Jackets posted a season sweep of the Grizzlies.  Franklin (14-11, 9-9 HCAC) will look to get back on track after earning a 4-6 mark down the stretch this season.  DC and FC will tip at 7:30 PM Tuesday night at Defiance College.

Hanover (17-8, 14-4 HCAC) came within two games of conference champion Rose-Hulman in the standings and earned the No. 2 seed in this week's tournament.  The Panthers have won eight of 10 down the stretch heading into the postseason tourney.  HC will face the winner of Transylvania and Mount St. Joseph in the other semifinal Friday night at Rose-Hulman.  The Panthers swept Transylvania and Mount St. Joseph during the regular season.

Transylvania (19-6, 14-4 HCAC) claimed the No. 3 seed and will play host to No. 6 Mount St. Joseph Tuesday night.  The Pioneers swept the Lions (9-16, 8-10 HCAC) during the regular season and will look for their third win against MSJ to move into the conference semis at Rose-Hulman.  Transy finished the season 8-2 heading into tournament play, while the Mount finished the season 4-6.  TU and MSJ will tip at 7:30 PM Tuesday night.

The HCAC tournament championship game will take place at 7:00 PM Saturday evening from Rose-Hulman. 

Tickets will be $6.00 per session ($5.00 for students and senior citizens).  Children under the age of 11 are free.
