CARMEL, Ind. – The 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Volleyball Tournament is set, with six teams rising to advance to the post-season playoff.
Transylvania University earned the No. 1 seed after running through the regular season conference schedule undefeated, boasting a 9-0 mark in league play. The Pioneers repeat as regular season champions but will look to secure the Conference Tournament Title that eluded them a season ago.
Entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed is Hanover College, who's league mark of 7-2 was good enough to secure the other first-round bye. Earlham College punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 6-3 mark, using their head-to-head win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to snag the No. 3 seed. Rose-Hulman, who also finished with a 6-3 league record, secured the No. 4 seed, and the right to host the opening round of the conference tournament.
Defiance College enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed with a league record of 5-4. In a three-way tie at 3-6 in conference play, Bluffton University emerged to take the final spot and the No. 6 seed in the tournament with their head-to-head victories against the other tied teams.
The playoffs will kick off on Nov. 6 with both matches starting at 7 p.m. No. 3 Earlham will host No. 6 Bluffton, while No. 4 Rose-Hulman will host No. 5 Defiance. The advancing teams will move on to face No. 1 Transylvania and No. 2 Hanover on Nov. 9, with the HCAC Championship set for Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
The HCAC's Tournament Champion will advance to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Championship Tournament, earning the conference's automatic qualifying bid.
