LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team earned the school's second HCAC tournament title, defeating No. 1 seed Transylvania, 25-21, 22-25. 25-23, 25-17 on Sunday afternoon. The No. 2 seed Fightin' Engineers (19-12) will advance to the NCAA Division III tournament by virtue of claiming the conference's automatic bid.
Against the Pioneers, senior Bailey MacInnis (Boulder, Colo.) led the way with 16 kills on a .283 hitting percentage for the Engineers. Senior Marissa Gollnick (Elk Grove, Calif.) tallied 12 kills, 24 assists and 14 digs in the victory, and sophomore Katryna Dahlberg (Hutto, Texas) tallied 37 digs.
Rose-Hulman advanced to Sunday's championship match by defeating No. 3 seed Earlham 3-1 in the semifinals Saturday afternoon.
Katryna Dahlberg was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after a pair of strong performances during the weekend. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team from the Fightin' Engineers was MacInnis and Gollnick.
The remaining members of the all-tournament team consisted of Transylvania's Hannah Talkers (Villa Hills, Ky.) and Jordan Horne (Louisville, Ky.), Bluffton's Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar, Ohio), and Earlham's Ashleigh Burton (Indianapolis, Ind.).
Rose-Hulman will take part in regional play on November 9-11. The Fightin' Engineers will find out their site and opponent Monday afternoon on the NCAA selection show at 12:30 p.m.
