HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College volleyball team earned their first HCAC tournament title since 2007, defeating No. 2 seed Rose-Hulman, 25-22, 26-24, 25-16 on Sunday afternoon. The No. 1 seed Panthers (26-5) will advance to the NCAA Division III tournament by virtue of claiming the conference's automatic bid.
Against the Fightin' Engineers, senior Kelsey Brandvik (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the way with 10 kills on a .588 hitting percentage for the Panthers. Haley Alexander (Martinsville, Ind.) and Abby Crump (Indianapolis, Ind.) eash had 20 assists in the victory, and senior Monique Huynh (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied 17 digs.
Hanover advanced to Sunday's championship match by defeating No. 4 seed Bluffton 3-1 in the semifinals Saturday afternoon.
Monique Huynh was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after a pair of strong performances during the weekend. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team from the Panthers was Kristin Goben (Louisville, Ky. ) and Kelsey Brandvik.
The remaining members of the all-tournament team consisted of Rose-Hulman's Gabi Razma (Durango, Colo.) and Marissa Gollnick (Elk Grove, Calif.), Bluffton's Bethany Martini (Pickerington, Ohio), and Transylvania's Taryn Glass (Louisville, Ky.).
Hanover will take part in regional play on November 10-12. The Panthers will find out their site and opponent Monday morning on the NCAA selection show at 12:30 p.m.
