Hanover College Chosen to Win HCAC Women's Outdoor Title

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Hanover College's women's track and field team has been selected to win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor championship.  In a poll of the ten HCAC head coaches, the Panthers received 93 total points and six first place votes.

Manchester University will look to claim the outdoor championship for the third straight year, as the Spartans totaled a second-best 90 points and three first place votes.  Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed third in the poll with 87 points and the final first place vote, while Transylvania University earned 66 points.  Bluffton University finished fifth with 62 points and was followed by Franklin College (49 points), Anderson University (36), Defiance College (35), Mount St. Joseph University (17) and Earlham College (15).

Hanover College enters the outdoor season after earning the school's third HCAC Indoor Championship in February. The Panthers placed second at the outdoor championship meet last April, and will look for the school's fourth outdoor title this season. Hanover returns three All-HCAC honorees from last year's squad as senior Savannah Hubbard (Madison, Ind./Southwestern) and sophomores Emily Clancy (Columbus, Ind. / Columbus East) and Erin Trimpe (NewPalestine, Ind. / New Palestine) return to help the Panthers win the title. Hubbard placed first in the long jump, while Clancy and Trimpe placed first in the pole vault and high jump, resepectively.

The Spartans won their third outdoor title at the HCAC meet last April.  Manchester returns a few All-HCAC selections from last year's outdoor title squad. Senior Maria Jordan (Ft. Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) earned a first place finish in the 1,500-meter and 10,000-meter run. Senior Shay Aator (West Lafayette, Ind. / West Lafayette) won the hammer throw last spring, while sophomore Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) finished first in the javelin.

Rose-Hulman placed third at the HCAC outdoor championships last April, but finished behind Hanover in second place at the HCAC Indoor Championships in February.   The Engineers return two All-HCAC honorees from last season's team.  Junior Jaclyn Setina (Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) won the high jump at last year's outdoor meet. Junior Gabi Razma (Durango, Colo. / Durango) won the triple jump last spring.

The 2017 HCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 at Anderson University.

The 2017 women's outdoor track and field season gets underway this weekend.
