Manchester's Jordan, Hanover’s Hubbard Earn HCAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Manchester University's Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) and Hanover College's Savannah Hubbard (Madison, Ind. / Southwestern) have been named 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively. Jordan led the Spartans to a third place finish at the meet, while Hubbard led the Panthers to a first place finish and the championship title on February 18.

Jordan, a senior for Manchester, won three individual events and was a member of the winning 4,000-meter medley relay team at the indoor championships.  She won the 800-meter run in a first place time of 2:23.15, the mile run in a time of 5:30.96, and claimed the 3,000-meter title in a time of 11:14.56.  Jordan's medley relay team placed first with a winning time of 13:27.73.

Hubbard, a senior on the Hanover squad, participated in six events with five top five performances at the championship meet.  The senior's highlighted performances begin with two second-place finishes in the long jump (5.42 meters) and triple jump (10.85 meters). Hubbard also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.56 seconds to lead the Panthers effort.

Also receiving recognition for her efforts at the meet is Manchester freshman Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City), receiving the 2017 HCAC Indoor Track & Field Freshman Athlete of the Year award.  Wappes finished second in the 800-meter run, third in the 3,000-meter run, and was a member of the first place 4,000-meter medley relay team and the third place 1,600-meter relay team.

Hanover College's Brian Power was named the HCAC Coach of the Year for the third time after leading the Panthers to the team title. Power led Hanover to its third women's indoor track and field conference championship in six years, garnering 130 points.
