GREENWOOD, IN - The first Indiana Division III Track & Field Championships took place Saturday afternoon at Franklin College with Hanover College claiming the team title. The Panthers held off the competition by nearly 50 points.
Hanover’s Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas/Ellison) was named the track MVP at the meet. The sophomore just missed the Hanover school record in the 100-meter dash with a first place time of 12.48, while also winning the 200-meter dash with a mark of 26.30 seconds. Chambers was also a member of the winning 4-x-100-meter relay team (51.45) and the second place 4-x-400-meter relay team (4:08.60).
Senior Emily Boyd (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) tallied 19 points for the Panthers in field events Saturday. The senior won the hammer throw with a heave of 42.47 meters and placed second in the discus with a mark of 37.38 meters. Boyd concluded her afternoon with an eighth place finish in the shot put.
Franklin placed second at the meet and was followed by Manchester (4th), Anderson (5th), Rose-Hulman (6th), and Earlham (7th) in the team standings.
The Panthers are currently ranked 7th in the Great Lakes Region in the latest poll released by USTFCCCA.
Bluffton, Defiance, and Mount St. Joseph were in action at the All-Ohio Outdoor Invitational Saturday. The Jackets placed 13th among the 20 competing schools, while Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph finished in a tie for 19th at the meet.
This weekend's schedule will be the final tune up before the HCAC Outdoor Championships at Manchester University on April 26-27.
