Hanover Captures Fourth Women's Tennis HCAC Crown in Last Five Years

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ---  Hanover College's women's tennis team capped off the season in impressive fashion, claiming the school's ninth Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship on Sunday afternoon.  The Panthers earned the first seed after completing the regular season with a 7-0 mark against league competition.

Hanover posted a 5-0 win over No. 4 seed Manchester before beating No. 2 Franklin in a 5-1 match to earn the championship and the conference's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III tournament.

In Sunday's championship match with Franklin, the Hanover Panthers posted a 5-1 victory at West Indy Racquet Club.  Hanover earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) knocked off Alexa Schofner (Edinburgh, Ind.) and Holyn Eldridge (Goshen, Ind.) of Franklin at No. 2 doubles 8-4.  

Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Susan Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) of Hanover notched an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Claire Hirsch (Michigan City, Ind.) and Jessica Baker (Brazil, Ind.).

Franklin's lone victory of the match came at No. 1 doubles where Karen Dringenburg (Seymour, Ind.) and Rachel Rose (Springboro, Ohio) defeated Hanover's Alana Feeley (Colchester, Vt.) and Caroline Millard (Cincinnati, Ohio) 9-8 with a 7-3 tiebreaker.

In singles play, Hanover earned wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles.  Jones collected a win at No. 2 singles over Holyn Eldridge 6-2, retirement.  Addison Laker (Indianpolis, Ind.) defeated Megan Battles (Shelbyville, Ind.) at No. 5 singles with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Haley Parker claimed the clinching match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Schofner at No. 4 singles.

Hanover's Cami Jones was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player for her efforts this weekend.

With claiming the tournament title, Hanover has earned the conference's automatic bid to play in the NCAA Division III tennis championships this spring.
