TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team will travel to Sewanee, Tennessee, to face Methodist University (N.C.) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday at 10 a.m. CT.

The women's tennis team has tied a single-season record with 14 wins and earned its first NCAA Division III Tournament trip since 2011 by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship last fall.  The Fightin' Engineers defeated regular season league champion Hanover 5-4 to claim its second HCAC Tournament title in program history last October.

Methodist has a 17-6 overall record and won the USA South championship on April 15 by defeating Covenant 8-1.  The Monarchs enter the NCAA Division III Tournament on a 10-match winning streak.

Rose-Hulman won six consecutive matches dating back to the fall season before falling in the regular season finale to nationally ranked DePauw.  The Fightin' Engineers also defeated Principia and Franklin during the spring season.

Junior Bella Evans and freshman Naomi Bhagat are enjoying two of the best single-season singles performances in Rose-Hulman history this season.  Evans has a 16-1 record as the team's No. 2 player, while Bhagat holds a 15-2 mark at the No. 3 slot.  Freshman Anna Thompson has also reached double digit wins at the No. 1 position with a 10-7 record.

Other primary singles players this season have included Lauren Edwards (7-6), Linde Schaffer (4-4), Sydney Short (8-1) and Becca Stanley (9-2).

Rose-Hulman has rotated its doubles teams for much of the season.  The duo of Thompson and Bhagat have emerged as the primary No. 1 team with an 8-6 mark.  Edwards and Evans each have eight doubles wins this season, and Stanley has joined Kyla Jarvis with six doubles wins.

The winner of Friday's match will face Emory (Ga.) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.  The NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament consists of 49 teams from across the nation.
