Franklin’s Melissa Sanders Earns HCAC Women’s Tennis MVP Honors

GREENWOOD, IN – Franklin College's Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./North) has been named the 2015 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis Most Valuable Player.  Sanders also claimed the award during the 2013 season as a sophomore.

Thirteen other players join Sanders on the All-HCAC first team, including six other seniors, one junior, two sophomores, and four freshmen. Anderson's Ashlan Millikan (New Castle, Ind.), Michaela Hurd (Greenfield, Ind.) and Abby Kirkman (Martinsville, Ind.), Franklin's Karen Dringenburg (Seymour, Ind.) and Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind.), Hanover's Mackenzie Spicer (Indianapolis, Ind.), Susan Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Tori Schwartz (Nappanee, Ind.), Manchester's Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.), Mount St. Joseph's Shelby Betz (Hamilton, Ohio), Rose-Hulman's Bella Evans (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Transylvania's Claire Mielcarek (Lexington, Ky.) and Megan Dixon (Ocala, Fla.) have been named to this year's team.

Franklin's Karen Dringenburg (Seymour, Ind./H.S.) was named the conference's Freshman of the Year.  Dringenburg finished with a 15-0 overall conference record during the regular season and claimed a 7-0 HCAC record at No. 3 singles and an 8-0 mark at No. 1 doubles for the Grizzlies.

Also receiving special recognition this season is Hanover head coach Ryan Miller. Miller led the Panthers to the conference title (8-0 HCAC) and the HCAC tournament championship, earning the school's third straight NCAA Division III women's tennis tournament berth.  The award is Miller's second honor as women's tennis coach at Hanover.
