Franklin sophomore Jessica Halsmer (Indianapolis, Ind. / Broad Ripple) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week.
On Friday, Halsmer won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.54 which currently ranks as the number one time in the HCAC and also ranks 46th in the country according to collegeswimming.com. The sophomore also led off the winning 200 medley relay against Millikin. The relay team won by 5.61 seconds over the Big Blue.
On Saturday, Halsmer once again led off the women’s 400 medley winning relay, setting the pace with nearly a 5 second lead over Illinois Tech after the lead-off leg, and claiming an eight second win. Halsmer then won the 200 freestyle for the second time in two nights, this time, against Illinois Tech and Loras College. She wrapped up her weekend by posting the 14th fastest time in the nation (2:08.11) in the 200 backstroke.
The Franklin Grizzlies women’s swimming and diving team will face Centre and Manchester on Saturday at 1 p.m.
