HANOVER, Ind. --- Mount St. Joseph University pulled out a 3-0 victory over Hanover College to earn the school's seventh HCAC women's soccer tournament championship. The second seeded Lions (16-2-3) earn a trip to the NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament with the win.
The Lions scored in the 21st minute as junior Stefanie Autenrieb (Cincinnati, Ohio) found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Jodie Weimer (Cleves, Ohio).
The Mount's second goal of the championship match came in the 46th minute from senior Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, Ohio) who recorded her 16th goal of the season. Gruber also added two assists in the semifinal victory against Transylvania on Tuesday and her efforts in the HCAC Tournament earned her the HCAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player award for the first time in her career.
Also scoring for the Mount St. Joseph's women's soccer team was Etelle Nfor (Frankfort Ky.). The freshman's goal in the 81st minute sealed the victory for the Lions.
The Lions will learn their first opponent in the NCAA tournament on Monday at 1 p.m. The tournament's first/second rounds are scheduled for November 10-11.
