Franklin Wins School's First HCAC Women's Soccer Tournament Crown

FRANKLIN, Ind. --- Franklin College pulled out a 2-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph University to earn the school's first HCAC women's soccer tournament championship.  The first seeded Grizzlies (15-4) earn a trip to the NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament with the win.

The Grizzlies scored in the 51st minute as sophomore Taylor McDaniel (Indianapolis, Ind.) found the back of the net off an assist from senior Clare Lenart (Seymour, Ind.).

Franklin's second goal of the championship match came in the 68th minute from junior Maddie Fleet (Indianapolis, Ind.) who recorded her 25th goal of the season. Fleet also scored the lone goal in the semifinal victory against Anderson on Wednesday and her efforts in the HCAC Tournament earned her the HCAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player award for the first time in her career.

The Grizzlies will learn their first opponent in the NCAA tournament on Monday at 1 p.m. The tournament's first/second rounds are scheduled for November 11-12.
