Women's Soccer Report (Week 5) - Grizzlies Net Pair of Wins to Close Out Non-HCAC Schedule

GREENWOOD, IN - The Franklin College women's soccer team won its second and third consecutive matches, defeating Spalding and Heidelberg last week.  The Grizzlies (6-3, 0-0 HCAC) have won six of their last seven matches heading into the league schedule.

Senior forward Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin) scored a pair of goals in FC's 3-0 win at Spalding Wednesday evening.  

In FC's 2-1 win over Heidelberg, junior forward Brandy Ramaj (Washington, Ind./H.S.) scored the game-winning goal in the 47th minute of play.

Franklin will open conference play at Earlham Saturday afternoon.

In other action...

Hanover claimed a win in its only action last week.  The Panthers (7-1-1, 0-0 HCAC) earned a 9-0 win over St. Mary-of-the-Woods Saturday. The nine goals were the most scored by the Panthers since the 2000 season.

Junior forward Tricia Walsh (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas) came off the bench to score one goal and add a career-high three assists to spark the Hanover offense in the win.

Hanover stands No. 3 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA DIII Great Lakes Region rankings heading into conference play.  The Panthers will open the HCAC slate at Manchester Saturday.

Transylvania improved to 5-2-1 on the season, defeating Ohio Northern on the road and tying Thomas More 1-1 in double overtime.  The Pioneers stand No. 6 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA DII Great Lakes Region poll.

The Pioneers will face Wittenberg this evening before opening HCAC action at Anderson Saturday.
